Phong Nha - Hoa Son - Hang Ruc 1 - Tang Hoa
7:30 ~ 8:00 AM: Your day kicks off nice and early and you will be collected from your accommodation in Phong Nha between 7:30/8am. Once everyone has been picked up you’ll be driven 30km over the historic Da Deo Mountain Pass. Here you’ll enjoy some breathtaking views looking down into the jungle and get some insight into the history of the area and the mountain range through which you’ll be exploring. Upon reaching Yen Phu Village you will set off towards Yen Phu Lake, the residence of the famous giant King Kong.
9:15 AM: Once you arrive at the lake, a perfect photo opportunity, your guide will give you some information as you have a chance to appreciate the peaceful nature alongside the cows, buffaloes and birds. When you are ready you will head back to the van and drive a little further to reach a different minority village, where you will meet the Chut people.
11:00 AM: When you arrive and park, you will embark on a thirty minute walk to the Chut village where you can spend some time to get acquainted there. You can leave your excess luggage and just take your tour necessities. Then you’ll hit the trail! It is a 2km trek past peanut plantations and several water buffalo. After wading across the river you’ll reach the gargantuan entrance of Hang Ruc Mon. When you reach the entrance to the cave you will have some time to relax and rest your legs while a delicious traditional Vietnamese BBQ meal is prepared for you (vegetarian option is also available). You will feast local style where all the food is spread out onto banana leaves, you can pick and choose what you want and wrap it up in spring roll or rice paper.
12:30 PM: Re-energised for the next part of the tour, you enter the cave by leaping into the crystal clear water, sure to wake you up after lunch and prepare you for the adventure ahead! There will be a leisurely swim, approx 1.5km, to the dry path. From here you will explore the many huge chambers from this entrance of the cave. Pause to respect millennia of history that it took to form the incredible stalagmites and stalactites, rare stone formations exclusive of other caves you might see in the Phong Nha area. You can find fossils, see cave pearls, and happily lose yourself in this cave. Touch the stone where the water has shaped its path, dip your hand into the deep dimples that have eroded away over time. You can spend about three hours in here, pausing for breaks if you feel tired, or going deeper into the abyss if you dare! Once back at the cave entrance, you’ll have a chance to dry off and after a half an hour trek you will arrive back at the village.
5:00 PM: Once back among the Chut people you will enjoy their warm hospitality and a hot or cold drink. Vietnam is home to 54 unique minorities, each with their own language, culture and customs. You’ll find yourself helpless to the charms of the Chut people of Tang Hoa.
5:30 PM: The last leg of the tour is the journey back into Phong Nha. You’ll have time to reflect on the sights and experiences of your day and share email addresses and photos with your group.
7:00 ~ 7:30 PM: Arrival back into Phong Nha! You will be dropped off at your accommodation in Phong Nha where you’ll be free to recount your day to fellow travelers, friends, and family back home. And you still have plenty of time to get ready for an evening out, or to get ready if you are planning to continue your journey on a night bus!
